And I ask myself, "What do I value most in life?" Is it a Harry Winston diamond necklace? Is it the freedom to buy it IF I wanted to? Maybe that's it! To be honest, I can appreciate the beauty of it, but would it be in alignment with my own personal values? The answer is no. That said, having the freedom and financial means to buy it if I so desired is another thing. How do we align our values with our daily choices? How do we go about having the freedom to do whatever our heart's desire? Isn't that the deeper question? It doesn't have to be a Harry Winston diamond necklace, but perhaps a weekly yoga class, organic foods, free time with our kids to just play, a monthly massage...whatever makes your heart sing. Doing a values exercise is really eye-opening. It's helped me to get really clear on what my values are and see where I was out of integrity with them. It helped me see how I spend my money, precious time and with who I spend it with. I am more clear now on whether or not my small daily choices and actions are aligned with what I value most in life. Btw...I was actually surprised by some of the results.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We're all so busy getting s*** done and keep up the pace of life. We often forget to pause, pay attention and play. In yoga philosophy, the word for play is "LILA" and it states that the whole world is the spontaneous creation of Brahman or the Absolute. It is sportive and playful, as opposed to self-conscious or volitional in intention. Lila emphasizes the fact that the world is born in freedom and playful creativity, rather than necessity. In this way, the whole world can be seen as a stage for this lila, or divine play. Each of us was created from this devine "play" and is our true nature. When we are in this energy of "playing" is when we have an opportunity to "research" or I prefer - to remember our most true and devine  essence. Where today can you take a moment to play, connect to nature or just pause and observe this LILA all around you?
This is Ayurveda! When we can slow down and align ourselves with the natures rhythm our lives become what they’re meant to be. When we are can become aware of what is ALREADY happening daily, seasonally and throughout the cycles of life, all we have to do is step into that existing rhythm and follow. How beautiful is that - no more pushing, forcing or having lead the way. Life becomes so much easier, less stressful and more free.
Kitchen medicine- In my studies of Ayurveda we’re being trained to look first at what we have in our kitchen to address simple ailments like digestive issues, constipation, tummy aches, colds and seasonal viruses, insomnia and more. Ayurveda states that our health is determined by the function of our digestive system. When we see the body as able to heal itself when we support it with better daily habits (sleep, routine, hands on healing, meditation, sense/ organ care etc.) the right foods for our own constitution, eating seasonally and organic plus learning about our digestion and it’s unique qualities- then we can really begin the path to self healing and optimal health. My dear friend Kiran gave me this beautiful spice tin 20 years ago before I knew anything about Ayurveda. I love this tin and use it to keep my most basic spices that I use daily- cardamom, coriander, fennel, turmeric, black mustard seed, and cloves.
