Some of my Favorite Summertime Recipes

Summer is the perfect time to bring more cooling foods into your routine to help you stay comfortable in the heat—physically, mentally, and emotionally. In Ayurveda, we learn that like increases like, so during Pitta season (late spring through summer), the hot, intense energy of the fire + water element is naturally heightened. To stay balanced, we want to avoid adding more heat through our food, drinks, and daily habits.

When we make thoughtful seasonal adjustments, we’re less likely to burn out, overheat (in body, mind, or mood), and we’re better prepared to transition into fall without carrying imbalances from summer.

In a nutshell: we want to reduce heating, oily, and acidic foods—especially those with pungent, sour, or salty tastes (think alcohol, caffeine, salty snacks, fried or processed foods). Instead, aim to increase cooling, calming tastes like sweet, astringent, and bitter—found in fresh fruits and veggies, dairy, grains, nuts/seeds, and clean sources of protein like organic fish or chicken.

Below are some cooling summer recipes I’ve been exploring! I haven’t tried every single one yet (I’m working my way through), but I’ve handpicked each for being somewhat seasonally supportive, non-heating, and easy to make.

Because let’s be real—no one wants to spend hours in a hot kitchen when there’s so much summer fun to be had. Just click the links below for the full recipes. Enjoy! 🌿✨
